Local nonprofit raises $162K for Night in a Car fundraiser

BLOOMINGTON – The numbers are in from Home Sweet Home Ministries in Bloomington’s annual Night in a Car fundraiser.

Over 180 participants across 70 teams participated in the annual event that provides individuals with a first-hand experience of homelessness.

“That $162,000 get’s plugged straight into the case management that we provide, the shelter that we provide, the meals that we serve, the services that we provide in our community center and elsewhere,” Matt Burgess, Chief Executive Officer of HSHM said on WJBC’s Afternoon Show. “That (money) immediately goes to good use to ensure (we can) do the work (we do) throughout the year.”

In other news, Burgess reports the homeless encampment has grown to 31 individuals.

Those individuals, who are staying in tents across from HSHM, are cared for and monitored by the nonprofit.
