Illinois State Police investigating officer-involved shooting on I-55 near Lexington

MCLEAN COUNTY – Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 55 near Lexington.

According to a press release, ISP troopers responded to the northbound lane of I-55 around 12:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Once on the scene, troopers found two vehicles on the shoulder of the interstate shooting at each other.

ISP reports a person then pointed a firearm at officers, and officers fatally struck the individual.

Police did not name the victim in the shooting nor the officer who fired the fatal shot.

There were no other injuries.

An investigation surrounding the shootings is underway by the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation.
