BLOOMINGTON – A 15-year-old teenager stands accused of playing a role in a shooting that left one injured earlier this month.
On Tuesday afternoon, Normal Police arrested the teenager for aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a gun.
The shooting took place in the 1000 block of West Market Street, where a 17-year old male was found with gunshot wounds to his legs. At the time, his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
There is no word on if the teenager will face the charges in adult court.
“The Bloomington community has zero tolerance for gun violence. Therefore, the Bloomington Police Department will diligently investigate these crimes with all of the resources we have on hand to hold perpetrators accountable,” Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington said in a news release. “It remains concerning that some of our youth choose to use violence to resolve conflict instead of an alternative means.”
The teenager remains behind bars in the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center.
