BLOOMINGTON – Emergency crews responded to an apartment fire Monday night on Bloomington’s east side.
Bloomington fire crews were called around 8:40 p.m. to 1311 N. Hershey Road for a report of an apartment fire.
One tenant reported smoke from around and under the sink cabinet. Another tenant was reporting a fire on the balcony. Upon further investigation and using a thermal imaging camera, it was determined that a fire was concealed in the ceiling of a 1st-floor apartment, according to the Bloomington Fire Department. It was also determined that the fire was on multiple building levels.
BFD said four handlines and two ladder streams were used to bring the fire under control. The fire was brought under control around 10:30 p.m. Crews continued to stay on scene until 4:00 a.m. Tuesday extinguishing hot spots.
Authorities said no injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
Several residents were displaced and the Red Cross was notified to provide assistance.
