LINCOLN – Lincoln’s top elected official wants to shut down rumors regarding immigrants housed on the Lincoln College campus.
According to Mayor Tracy Welch, he spoke with representatives from Lincoln College about the matter.
The college told the Mayor the campus is still owned by Lincoln College and managed by the Administration and Board of Trustees.
In addition, the college noted the campus remains for sale, and there have yet to be any offers or interest from prospective buyers.
“The campus is still owned by Lincoln College and managed by the Administration and Board of Trustees, as it has been for the last 158 years. The campus property is listed for sale through our national broker Cushman & Wakefield. We do not have any offers or interest from prospective buyers or prospective tenants related to your area of concern,” Lincoln College representatives told the Mayor.
Last year, Mayor Welch announced the college would reopen after closing in May 2022.
However, the Illinois Board of Higher Education reacted to the Mayor’s comments by saying there was no application to reopen the college.
WJBC reached out to Mayor Welch for a comment on the future of the campus but has yet to hear back.
