BLOOMINGTON – Election commissions all over Central Illinois are looking to fill judge openings before the March 19 primary.
The City of Bloomington is pleading to fill an urgent need before election day, but they’re aiming for a younger crowd.
“We need some young folks to get involved with the democratic process,” said Executive Director of the Bloomington Board of Election Commissions Luke Stremlau.
Juniors and seniors in high school only need the signature of their principal and parent to serve as an election judge.
Executive Director of the Peoria County Election Commission Elizabeth Gannon said being an election judge can give you a behind the scenes look at the electoral process.
“Even if you are curious about how elections work or perhaps skeptical about how elections work, serving as an election judge is a great way to see how we do things, what processes we have in place, and why we do things the way we do,” said Gannon.
“You’re going to get the day off. You’re going to get paid $200 to do it. And it looks great on your resume. And it’s a great way to learn about the democratic process,” said Gannon.
