BLOOMINGTON – A recycling truck in Bloomington caught fire Thursday morning, but fast action by the driver resulted in no injuries.
While en route on Beich Rd. and Poppy St., the driver noticed smoke coming from the truck’s rear end.
“Along with promptly notifying Bloomington Fire, the driver showed excellent presence of mind by relocating the vehicle to a less populated area with fewer homes, minimizing the risk to nearby residents and structures,” said Katherine Murphy, the city’s Communication and External Affairs Manager.
Emergency crews from the Bloomington Fire Dept. responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
