EUREKA – The Woodford County Sheriff’s Department will now handle animal control services.
This comes after the Woodford County board approved the change last Thursday. They appointed Sheriff Matt Smith to be the Animal Control Warden starting April 4.
Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword said having the animal control services in-house will benefit the community.
“I think this is probably the right department within the county to oversee animal control as well,” Tipsword said. “Now that we’re into it, but like I said, this will be a learning curve for us, and it’ll take us several months to really get going. But yeah, we think we’re on the right track.”
They’ll spend the next few weeks preparing their animal control trucks and will have animal control deputies on call seven days a week.
