Roads around Uptown Circle closing for Festival of Colors Saturday

NORMAL – Uptown Circle and all its entrances and exits will be closed at 11 a.m. for a festival on Saturday.

According to a Town of Normal news release, the closure is for “A Festival of Colors: Holi Moli!,” which will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The festival is being held by Normal Community High School’s South Asian Performing Arts Students and Asian American and Pacific Islander Club.

The two-day festival called Holi is celebrated in the Indian subcontinent and has its origins in Hindu mythology, to celebrate the arrival of spring after winter.

During the festival, it is customary to throw colored powder on friends and family to show love and respect for each other.

Admission to the Festival of Colors in Normal is free. Those who attend will be provided with color packets and are encouraged to wear white to best show off the colors.

The roads around Uptown Circle are expected to be fully reopened by 6 p.m.

This festival is supported by the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Town of Normal, the Children’s Discovery Museum, the McLean County Museum of History and Illinois Art Station.
