BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington City Council approved its Downtown Streetscape Plan in a unanimous vote last week.

According to a City of Bloomington news release, the plan improves the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the city’s downtown space.

The improvements will include widening sidewalks, and enhancing green space while making downtown Bloomington more pedestrian and bike-friendly.

The proposals plan for a new transit center to replace the Market Street garage and a video projection system that will provide a backdrop to outdoor concerts in the plaza area.

Katherine Murphy, Communications & External Affairs Manager for the City, said the plan had overwhelming support from downtown business owners and community organizers.

The plan is expected to be implemented in multiple phases. More information and updates on the project are available here.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
