BLOOMINGTON – The city council has selected Bloomington’s former city attorney and current deputy city manager as the next city manager.
Jeff Jurgens has spent several years as the city’s deputy City Manager, working alongside Deputy City Manager Billy Tyus.
This month, the city bid farewell to its current City Manager, Tim Gleason, who announced his departure to join Decatur as its City Manager.
“In my mind, the priorities are infrastructure, housing, and making sure we’re operating an efficient and effective city government,” said Jurgens in his first interview on WJBC’s Afternoon Show. “Next we, we will actually have a city council retreat, so it will be interesting to make sure that the council, those are their priorities as well.”
In an interview on WJBC, former City Manager Gleason said he recommended Jurgens to the council to succeed him.
“It’s their decision, ultimately, but I’m hopeful that this transition is extremely easy,” he told WJBC’s Scott Miller. “But, I’m hopeful this transition is extremely easy, and they look to him as the next City Manager.”
Gleason, who spent six years leading Bloomington, begins his tenure in Decatur on May 6, 2024.
Jurgens’ appointment is now pending approval by the Bloomington City Council, with the official decision slated to be announced during the April 22 city council meeting.
