SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigations leader plans to leave the state for a position at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. 

F-B-I Director Christopher Way named Special Agent in Charge David Nanz as the assistant director of the Operational Technology Division of the FBI headquarters. 

After serving in the Los Angeles and Miami Field offices, special Agent Nanz joined the Springfield office in 2021. 

In his new role, Nanz will develop and deploy technology-based solutions to enhance F-B-I’s intelligence, national security, and law enforcement operations. 

Nanz began his career with the FBI in 2001, where he investigated white-collar crimes out of the Las Vegas Field Office. 

FBI Director Way plans to fill the position in the Springfield Office at a later date.
