BLOOMINGTON – Construction workers broke ground on a new football complex at Central Catholic High School Thursday morning.
Hundman Field at Saints Stadium and the track facilities that surround it will undergo transformation with the installation of synthetic turf and a new track and field surface.
The upgrades are a part of the VISION campaign, which includes renovations to common areas in the school and an increase in teacher pay.
“We’ll have our football field, the soccer field, they will all play there,” Sean Foster, President of Central Catholic, said on WJBC’s Afternoon Show. “We have our track, the brand new state-of-the-art track, so that’s the facilities.
The press box, everything, the tailgating, that’s going to be the same; that’s going to be traditional, the same thing you see every Friday, but now we get to play on a new surface.”
Since the start of the campaign in January, supporters have committed over $7 million towards the $10 million goal.
Leaders from Central Catholic plan to use some of the money to increase teacher salaries by 16% on average, which is roughly a 5.5% increase per year over the last three years.
