Bloomington Bison to announce their NHL affiliation next week

BLOOMINGTON – Next week, the Bloomington Bison will announce which NHL franchise their minor league team will be affiliated with.

The Bison are in the ECHL which is a class AA minor league hockey franchise. Most teams within the ECHL have an affiliation with the National Hockey League. The Bison will also like be affiliated with an American Hockey League team. The AHL is the top professional minor league and considered AAA.

By comparison, the Peoria Rivermen are in the Class A SPHL.

“With over 600 season tickets for our inaugural season already sold, the community’s support has been overwhelming, and we can’t wait to see the stands filled with enthusiastic fans, said Katherine Murphy, a spokeswoman for the city of Bloomington.

Since 2006, Bloomington has been home to four other hockey teams. The last team, Central Illinois Flying Aces, took the ice for the last time in 2019.
