BLOOMINGTON – Three McLean County residents face up to 30 years in prison in connection with a November 2023 armed robbery that left a man seriously injured.
Andrew McConnaughay, 28, of Hudson; Scott P. James, 30, and Brittany A. Wells, 29, both of Bloomington were indicted by a McLean County grand jury on several charges with the most serious being armed robbery in connection with the Nov. 18, 2023, incident at the Oakbrook Apartments on Bloomington’s East Side.
Armed robbery carries a mandatory prison term of six to 30 years behind bars. It’s possible an additional 15 years could be added onto that base range if prosecutors can show a gun was used in the incident.
According to Bloomington police spokesman Bryce Janssen, the victim was in his apartment when the trio came in. They battered him with guns, causing significant but non life-threatening injuries. The trio fled after taking cash and property, Janssen said.
One of the weapons recovered was a loaded firearm with an extended magazine, he said.
McConnaughay was already in custody on a unrelated case involving drug possession, according to court records. The other two were arrested without incident. All three remain at the county jail.
Hudson’s charges include armed robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, robbery, aggravated battery and mob action.
James’ charges include armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, robbery, aggravated battery and mob action.
Wells faces charges of armed robbery, robbery and aggravated battery.
