FARMER CITY – Due to several maintenance issues, the pool in Farmer City will not be opening to the public for the Memorial Day weekend.

According to a Facebook post, the pool will not hold water, likely due to a broken pipe. City staff also say one of the main pumps is not functioning properly and needs to be repaired.

“To say we are disappointed is an understatement,” the Facebook post stated.

The post says they don’t know when they will be able to open the pool and hope to have a better timeline over the next few days.

The city says if there is a significant delay opening the pool, those who have already purchased a pool pass will receive a refund or rebate.

They’ll also need to reschedule or cancel pool parties until further notice.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
