BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL – Connect Transit was bestowed one of 23 federal grants in the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Bill.
Spearheaded by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Il.), the money will go towards onboard communication systems and camera systems.
“Everyone deserves a safe ride when they hop on the bus to get to work, run errands, or meet up with loved ones,” Durbin said. “In Bloomington-Normal, Illinoisans can rely on Connect Transit to get the job done.”
He continued, “I was a strong advocate for Connect Transit to receive today’s announced funding, and I’m glad to see $800,000 in federal support going to the region’s transit systems.”
The money is part of the federal funding from the Fiscal Year 2024 Congressionally Directed Spending Program.
