SPRINGFIELD – Wednesday morning – hours after the legislature passed the $53.1 billion budget in its all-night finale – Gov. JB Pritzker felt like taking a victory lap.
“Republicans say things like, ohhh, we are careening toward a brick wall! It hasn’t happened. Six years in a row, we have balanced this budget. We have made sure that we are thinking about and lowering costs for working families every time we put a budget together. I’m pleased with how the budget ultimately came out. Six years of balanced budgets (in a row) for Illinois: that’s a record.”
Still undone: changes to the Prisoner Review Board and regulations on hemp and its dangerous derivative, delta-8. Those passed the Senate but were not taken up in the House.
