NORMAL – Community members have raised over $300,000 for three local boys who are now parentless after a tragic murder-suicide that happened last week in Normal.

Normal police said 48-year-old Amy Moore was shot and killed at her home by her husband, who then shot himself.

Amy was a 2nd grade teacher at Grove Elementary School in Normal and many in the community are still at a loss for words after last weeks tragedy.

Normal Town Council member Andy Byars spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“We often hear of these tragedies happening in other parts of the country and sometimes when something happens like this so close to home it reminds you of all the work that is yet to be done on issues like domestic violence,” said Byars.

Amy’s family members have started a Go Fund Me page for her three boys – ages 12, 11 and 7 – to help them moving forward after losing both parents.

You can find a link to the Go Fund Me page here.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
