SPRINGFIELD – State lawmakers have scattered to their home districts after adjournment this past week – the Sunday of a holiday weekend for the Senate and the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday for the House.
It’s likely none welcome the rest more than those in charge of the state budget.
“Last year there was a lot more (pandemic relief) dollars than there were this year,” said State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth (D-Peoria), the House Democrats’ chief budgeteer. “With some of the additional federal resources that we had (last year), there was an ability to do a lot more. This year was much more reminiscent of what we are used to around the budget-making space: you set your priorities; nobody gets everything that they want.”
