NORMAL – It was a somber atmosphere at Wednesday’s Unit 5 School Board meeting as a moment of silence was held for the passing of a second-grade teacher at Grove Elementary School.

Police believe Amy Moore was murdered by her estranged husband who later died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Moore taught at Grove Elementary for two decades.

“We ask that you continue to keep her family, friends, students and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers,” said President of the Unit 5 School Board, Jeremy DeHaai.

On the day of her death, Grove Elementary Principal Sara Edwards described Moore as an “outstanding educator and friend.”

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
