BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Police Department warned that they will step up traffic enforcement for the Fourth of July holiday this week.
According to a Bloomington police news release, from July 2 to 8, officers will be working to keep impaired drivers off the road and ticket unbuckled motorists.
The Bloomington Police Department will be teaming up with Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff offices to increase enforcement around the state.
Some driving tips police are sharing before the holiday include:
- Designate a sober driver before heading out.
- Prevent friends and family members from driving under the influence.
- If you find yourself impaired, use safe alternatives such as taxis, public transit and ride-sharing apps,
or contact a sober friend or family member for a ride. - Report suspected drunk drivers promptly to law enforcement.
- Ensure that all passengers in your vehicle buckle up. It’s not only the law, but also
a crucial defense against impaired drivers.
The increased enforcement is made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
