BLOOMINGTON – The calendar is filling up for Bloomington’s Arts and Entertainment Department as the city is looking forward to more visibility for the arena and performing arts center.

The Grossinger Motors Arena has Marlon Wayans coming in September plus 36 hockey games for the Bloomington Bison. Last week season tickets for the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts went on sale. It’s a season packed with spoken word, music and theatre. The War and Treaty, Menopause the Musical 2Dirty Dancing Live and Brian Regan are some of the performances booked at The BCPA.

Anthony Nelson, arts and entertainment director for the City of Bloomington, said more visibility brings more bookings to the venues.

“Traffic brings traffic, right? So if a promoter agent goes to your building and they say, ‘oh, there’s a lot of stuff on this calendar,’ they know they have the staffing to be able to pull off a show,” said Nelson.

The arts and entertainment director is also excited to see more people come to the venues and enjoy entertainment in Downtown Bloomington.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
