WOODFORD COUNTY – Scammers found a new grift by masquerading as Woodford County deputies and staff, according to a post from the office’s Facebook page.
The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents they don’t call for payment or any other kind of solicitation. Scammers will often use threats or coercion while imitating police to get personal information or money.
Another tip is that scammers usually ask for payment by wire transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency, or payment app. It’s notoriously difficult to get money back through these payment channels, the office said.
Anyone who has received a suspicious call is encouraged to call the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office at (309) 467-2375.
