Bloomington Council approves Rivian expansion

BLOOMINGTON – Rivian got the go-ahead by the Bloomington City Council for two new buildings on Monday.

The Enterprise Zone, where Rivian is located, got approved for expansion unanimously as part of the council’s consent agenda.

According to the council itinerary, Rivian plans to expand their manufacturing facility with two 1,200,00 square foot buildings for light manufacturing, kitting and logistics.

The costs are estimated at $200 million with construction expected to be begin in November of this year and wrapping up around November in 2025.

With the expansion, 600 to 700 new jobs will be created.

Other items approved in the consent agenda include a construction agreement with Rowe Construction totaling $6,841,961.14 for street resurfacing and the purchase of a shared server storage array for $175,363.48 to replace antiquated storage infrastructure.

As part of the regular agenda, the council unanimously approved a new TIF district in downtown Bloomington. The new TIF is expected to change the equalized assessed value of the area from $37,492,147 to $59,400,000.
