Bloomington City Council approves new roadwork

BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington City Council unanimously approved a $6.8 million roadwork contract with Rowe Construction at during last week’s meeting.

According to a city news release, the money is going towards the city’s roads most in need of repair.

“Approving this contract represents a significant investment in our city’s infrastructure. By targeting these roadways, that are both highly deteriorating and the subject of frequently complaints, residents and visitors will see a noticeable difference in our community. It’s exciting to finally tackle these long-standing road issues,” said City Manager Jeff Jurgens. “With all of the roadwork currently underway and planned in the near future, city staff will be putting more focus on keeping the community informed of road closures and detours.”

The following streets will be repaired:

  • Fort Jesse Road: Hershey Road to Lake Shore Drive
  • General Electric Road: West of Hershey Road to west of Towanda Barnes Road
  • Six Points Road: Oakland Avenue to Longden Avenue
  • Ridgewood Drive: Main Street to end
  • McGregor Street: Lincoln Street to Lafayette Street
  • Meadowbrook Drive: McGregor Street to Lafayette Street
  • Conley Circle: Meadowbrook Drive to McGregor Street
  • Magnolia Drive: Lincoln Street to Lafayette Street
  • Fort Jesse Road: Lake Shore Drive to Kaisner Drive

Roadwork is expected to start this fall. The majority of the work will be done in the spring and summer of next year.

The contract is only part of the upcoming construction, as $11 million towards roadway and sidewalks improvements are already underway.
