NORMAL – Normal Town Council member Kathleen Lorenz on Monday announced her candidacy to be the next mayor of Normal.

Lorenz is currently serving on the town council for a third term after being re-elected in 2023.

According to a campaign news release, Lorenz is running for mayor to bring a fresh approach and build upon the Town of Normal’s successes while leading it into a new era of enhanced community collaboration with local entities to address the mutual issues facing the Twin Cities.

“I am proud to tell anyone who asks that I am from Normal, Illinois — I highlight our region’s rich history in agriculture, insurance, our esteemed institutions such as Illinois State University and Heartland Community College, and how our forward-thinking community has become home to the flagship manufacturing site for electric car maker, Rivian,” Lorenz said in the news release.

Lorenz has been a resident of Normal for over 30 years. She recently joined the leadership team at Home Sweet Home Ministries as their Director of Administration, and prior to that worked for the United Way of McLean County.

Lorenz enters the mayoral race in the Town of Normal alongside current Mayor Chris Koos and town council member Chemberly Harris.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
