SPRINGFIELD – “Do you feel that?” asked Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton.
“It’s the page turning on a new chapter in maternal health care.”
She attended a bill-signing for the Birth Equity Initiative, which expands the services Medicaid will pay for, including doulas and lactation help.
“My team and I are focused on birth justice nationwide,” said Liz Dozier, founder and CEO of Chicago Beyond. “It is unacceptable that Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related complication than white women.”
