BLOOMINGTON – Thursday, the Bloomington Public Library finally celebrated finishing its expansion and renovations with a ribbon cutting.

The building was filled with people who appreciate all the resources a library has to offer. At the ribbon cutting, library staff gave tours to elected officials and members of the community.

A teen zone, community rooms, an innovation lab and two recording studios are now accessible at Bloomington’s library. With these new spaces, the library goers can experience virtual reality, record a podcast and even do some 3-D printing.

Jeanne Hamilton, library director, said the changes add to the library’s rich history.

“With its first building, opening 167 years ago in 1857. We are so pleased to continue to build on that rich history through enhanced library services made possible with these newly added spaces,” Hamilton said.

Catrina Parker, library board president, said the completion helps further the library’s vision.

“This project will further help us in our vision to enrich and inspire our diverse and evolving community,” said Parker.

It took 25 months to complete the renovations and expansion. The project totaled $25.2 million, utilizing reserve funds, community donations, state funding and a bond.

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
