TAZEWELL COUNTY – Tazewell County readers under the age of 5 will soon be able to pick up a free monthly book.

According to a news release from Morton Public Library, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has partnered up with Tazewell libraries to jumpstart a love of reading.

Alissa Williams, director of the Morton Public Library said, “Libraries are committed to education and learning. As research shows, early literacy skills lead to success in school. We want all children to have easy access to books, so partnering with Imagination Library made sense.”

All young readers under 5 are eligible. A kick-off celebration will be held Aug. 21 at the Morton Public Library Reading Garden at 10:30 a.m.

The program wouldn’t be possible without local donations, you can find a list of local organizations that contributed below:

  • East Peoria Women’s Club
  • Friends of Fondulac District
  • Retired Teachers of Tazewell County

This is the second Imagination Library to launch in central Illinois. If all counties in Illinois sign up, Dolly herself will make an appearance to celebrate.

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
