Coroner identifies 90-year-old man killed in collision in rural Green Valley

TAZEWELL COUNTY – A 90-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a crash Saturday morning in rural Tazewell County.

According to Tazewell County Coroner Chuck Hanley, Elmer Papenhause of rural Tremont was the sole occupant of a pickup truck when it collided with another pick-up near the intersection of Towerline Road and Toboggan Avenue in rural Green Valley.

Papenhause was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:29 p.m.

Four occupants of the other pickup truck were taken to a Peoria hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known. Authorities were alerted at 11:16 a.m. of the accident.

An autopsy was done on Papenhause and initial findings show he died of multiple blunt force injuries due to the motor vehicle collision.

This case remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.
