BLOOMINGTON – On Tuesday, Bent Elementary Superstars gathered for a special assembly to kick off the centennial celebration week.
“It is my great honor and privilege to be here on the 100th birthday of Bent Elementary,” said Principal Guillermina Delgado.
In recognition of Bent Elementary’s 100th anniversary, the school received a proclamation declaring the week Bent Elementary School Week.
“Over these 100 years, bent has come to exemplify the excellence and service that is synonymous with district 87 but also with the man whose name it bares, Horatio G. Bent,” said Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe.
Bent being a dual-lingual school exemplifies excellence for the Superstars. The assembly was a bi-lingual assembly with Delgado translating for the PTO board, the mayor and Superintendent Dr. David Mouser.
The assembly finished with the PTO presenting a painting of Bent from local artist Eileen Backman.
Tuesday also kicked off spirit week for the superstars. Leading up to Saturday’s community celebration students have different dress-up tasks including decades day, rock band t-shirt day because the Superstars have been rocking for 100 years and a hat day to tip their hats off to Bent.
The community celebration is Sept. 7 from 4 pm to 6 pm. Bent Elementary is located at 904 N Roosevelt Avenue.
