The city of Bloomington teamed up with The Immigration Project and BN Welcoming to hold the “Divercity” event at Miller Park.
From Asian to Indian to Mexican, the event celebrated diverse cultures and communities by showcasing different clothes, food and languages.
Michael Hurt, the city’s diversity and inclusion officer, said Bloomington is a welcoming city for all cultures.
“They get to interact with maybe groups that they don’t interact with on their own. We are so siloed in some places. So this is an opportunity you get to see everybody that’s here. You get to taste some of their food, read some of their books, and pick up some of their literature. That way we get to be more of a community,” said Hurt.
The event is part of the annual welcoming week.
