BLOOMINGTON – Community members packed inside the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bloomington for “Hear Our Voices – A Rally For Democracy.”
The Bloomington-Normal chapter of the NAACP hosted the event to encourage Black people to vote.
Guests heard from speakers like Brian Peterson with Omega Psi Phi, and other leaders in the Black community to get out the vote.
Carla Campbell-Jackson with NAACP said it doesn’t matter who you vote for as long as you get out and cast your ballot.
“Voting is so critically important because it impacts every iota of our lives, from health care to environmental and climate justice issues to education. So voting definitely impacts everything that impacts us as citizens,” said Campbell-Jackson.
Early voting in Illinois starts Thursday, and the general election is Nov 5.
