PEKIN – After a cyber attack last year, the Tazewell County Board is looking for solutions.

Wednesday night’s board meeting focused primarily on technological updates and recovery.

The board approved for a security video monitoring system at the Tazewell County Health Department, as well as a new, more secure, fiber infrastructure project at the McKenzie building in Pekin.

“Tonight is a phase two implementation of our goals of revamping our technology,” said Tazewell County Administrator Mike Deluhery. “Earlier this year, we approved updating our core server environment, and this takes it one step farther as looking at the other components.”

Last year’s cyber attack in Tazewell County brought down their geographical data system, causing the board to purchase upgrades.

“With the cyber attack last year, this certainly expedited some of the technology items we had,” Deluhery said. “We had budgeted for doing a lot of upgrades this year, and that just certainly shined a brighter light on it that we need to act fast.”

Other agenda items tonight include the approval of a purchase of a truck for Tazewell County Animal Control and approval of a bid for sidewalk replacement at the health department building.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
