BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man faces charges stemming from a June 9 incident that left a man with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Eric L. Derring, 31, was indicted by McLean County grand jury on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, being an armed habitual criminal, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possessing a firearm and ammunition while being a felon.
Those charges could put him in jail for up to 30 years if he’s convicted. Last week, he was in court and ordered held pending the outcome of his case. His next court hearing is Oct. 24.
According to police, Derring was arrested last week not too far from where the shooting occurred.
The shooting happened, Bloomington police say, in the 300 block of Erickson Avenue which is in the west-central part of the city. The victim, a 26-year-old man, taken to an area hospital where was treated.
