SPRINGFIELD – There were 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending October 6, 2024. Statewide, the average temperature was 65.7 degrees, 6.3 degrees above normal.
Precipitation averaged 0.14 inches, 0.61 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6 percent very short, 32 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 39 percent short, 52 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Corn mature reached 94 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 82 percent. Corn harvested reached 32 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 30 percent. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 20 percent excellent.
Soybeans dropping leaves reached 90 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 83 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 42 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 28 percent. Soybeans condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.
Winter wheat planted reached 18 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 21 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 6 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 4 percent.
