SPRINGFIELD – Justice delayed is justice denied. That’s what a Springfield Black leader is saying about the latest move in the Sonya Massey case.
Monday’s status hearing was put off until Dec. 2, presumably awaiting an appellate ruling which could allow former deputy Sean Grayson to go free pending trial. Teresa Haley says she is speaking for Sonya Massey’s family and reacts to the postponement.
“If they decide to release him without notifying the family, it would be a slap in the face as we go into the holidays,” said Haley after the extremely brief hearing. “People seem to grieve more and think about their loved ones more going into the holidays.”
Defense lawyer Mark Wykoff told WJBC News he expects the case to go to trial. Where is unknown.
Would Judge Ryan Cadigan, who at arraignment seemed to buy into the prosecution’s contention Grayson’s dangerous, let Grayson walk out? Haley says … who knows.
