MCLEAN COUNTY – A McLean County Judge handed down a nearly 75-year sentence earlier this week for a crime almost 20 years ago.

In 2023, Normal Police arrested Thomas Folks, 37, for five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.

During the trial, McLean County prosecutors outlined how the victim in the case was less than 13 years of age during the assault.

As part of a plea agreement, Folks pled guilty to two counts of predatory sexual assault, and the other three charges were dismissed.

Earlier this week, a McLean County judge sentenced Folks to 74 years behind bars.

Folks received credit for the 243 days he has been in the McLean County jail since being arrested.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
