McLean County crash leaves one dead

MCLEAN COUNTY – A Bloomington man allegedly fled the scene of a wreck that left one person dead.

According to the Bloomington police, the wreck occurred at 7:49 p.m. Sunday on Fox Creek Road near the intersection of Beich Road, in South Bloomington. A 27-year-old female was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.

According to the Bloomington police, Michael C. Mitchell, 25, was driving a sedan westbound when the car collided with another sedan headed east.

Mitchell allegedly fled the scene and was arrested at a nearby apartment complex. He was transported to the McLean County Jail, police said.

According to a news release, he was arrested on nine charges, including reckless homicide, improper passing in a no-passing zone, failure to report an accident, failure to give information/render aid in an accident involving injury or death (2 counts) and two weapons/felon possess/use of a firearm counts.

The driver of the eastbound car had non-life-threatening injuries.

When police arrived at the scene they began an investigation. Due to the severity of the crash the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene.

The identity of the woman who died in crash was not immediately available. An autopsy is pending.
