GOODFIELD – The Busy Corner in Goodfield isn’t letting a fire stop them from delivering Thanksgiving pies.

Last Wednesday, a fire in the restaurant’s utility room caused smoke damage to the interior of the building. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In response, the community has been offering donations and even kitchens for the owners to bake some pies for Thanksgiving.

They’ll have eight different flavors, all available for pickup Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the old Busy Corner location at 210 East Peoria St, Goodfield. The restaurant said pies will be sold first come, first served. They’ll be selling from 8am-4pm or until they run out.

Owners Emily and Derrick Vollmer said the community support has meant the world to them during this trying time.

“We have been blessed by just a lot of local support. The Barn Three Theater locally here has generously let us use their kitchen to make a lot of these pies. We’ve had I’ve personally I’ve had at least four other business operators contact me and offer their kitchens as well,” said Derrick Vollmer.

If you’re interested in helping The Busy Corner staff, a fund has been set up at Goodfield State Bank that directly goes to the restaurant’s employees.

They’re hoping to be back up and fully operational by the start of the new year.

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
