BLOOMINGTON – Five people have been released from the McLean County Jail, a day or or so after being arrested in connection with an Illinois State Police human trafficking operation.

One remained in custody Sunday morning, according to online jail records.

The state police spent two days in McLean County on Jan. 8 and 9 focusing on arresting people who were allegedly trying to meet up with underage kids for sexual acts.

Those arrested were Nathan J. Hansen, 45, of Bloomington, David Teran, 25, of Bloomington, Steve Adma, 21, of Galesburg, Khalid Farah, 21, of Arlington Heights, Larry Miller, 60, of Tolono, and Michael Morris, 33, of Forrest City, according to a news release from the state police.

Of those six, only Morris remains in custody, according to jail records.

They were all arrested on a slew of charges which included grooming, traveling to meet a minor and solicitation to meet a child five years and older to name a few, the agency said.

All, if convicted of all charges, face up to five years in prison.

Human trafficking is the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel a person into commercial sex acts, labor, or services against their will,” state police said.

Jan. 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
