LOGAN COUNTY – A program that protects the interests of children in the courtroom announced that it is expanding into another county.

Volunteers with the McLean County Court Appointed Special Advocates Program will be expanding into Logan County, said Paige Malloy, the volunteer recruiter/trainer for CASA of McLean and Logan counties.

The CASA program helps oversee the progress of child welfare cases, meet with the children, advocate for them and communicate their needs to the adults involved, Malloy said.

Mary Pat Frugo-Anderson, Executive Director of CASA of McLean and Logan Counties, said they are looking forward to expanding and finding volunteers who are committed to helping kids.

“Finding passionate and committed volunteers who are interested in contributing to a child’s well-being is imperative to our mission,” Frugo-Anderson said.Cocktails for CASA 2024 | WMBD News This Morning

Those interested in volunteering will take a variety of in-person and online training to give volunteers the experience they need to begin their case, Malloy said.

She said services will be fully available in Logan County once volunteers are trained.

In 2024, CASA services were available in 59 counties across Illinois. More information on how to volunteer is available on the organization’s website.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
