BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Police Department arrested a second person for his alleged connection to an August shooting.

According to a Bloomington police news release, Navarro Godfrey, 18, was arrested for several charges, including aggravated battery, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal damage to property.

Godfrey was taken into custody while officers responded to an attempted vehicle theft on Monday. Officers responded to the area near Jefferson and Prairie Streets and located two suspects, one of which was Godfrey. He was taken to the McLean County Detention Facility where he remains at this time.

The charges are connected to an Aug. 23, 2024 shooting incident near Graham and Madison Streets. A 21-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries during this incident. A nearby residence also suffered damages.

A 17-year-old boy was also taken into custody last year in connection to this shooting.

“Thank you to the community for continuing to support the officers and staff of the Bloomington Police Department,” Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington said. “We are happy to see another successful investigation, which led to the arrest of an individual who is alleged to be committing serious crimes in our city. Hats off to these officers and detectives for their diligent and deliberate efforts to contribute to the safety of our community.”

This incident remains under investigation.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
