NORMAL – A man from Normal medaled in the Special Olympic World Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Daniel Johnson won silver in the 400-meter snowshoeing event, with a time of 1:40.56., according to a news release from Heartland Community College, where Johnson is a HALO student.Central Illinoisan to represent country at Special Olympics

Johnson also finished fourth in the 800-meter snowshoeing event and fifth in the 4×100-meter snowshoeing event.

He has participated in the Special Olympics for 14 years and has participated in other sports including powerlifting, softball, basketball and volleyball.

Johnson won gold in the Illinois Special Olympic Winter Game in 2023 which earned him a spot in the World Winter Games.

The Winter Games were held from March 8-16 and had more than 1,500 athletes competing from 103 countries.
