BLOOMINGTON – The city of Bloomington’s Water Department temporarily switched its water source from Lake Evergreen to Lake Bloomington on Tuesday.

The city announced the switch last week to help treat the algae bloom affecting Evergreen Lake and help further improve water quality, city spokeswoman Katherine Murphy said.

Treatment of Lake Evergreen began Wednesday. Residents can expect to notice an improvement to the taste and smell of their drinking water.

“We’re on the right path,” City Manager Jeff Jurgens said. “This is a major step toward putting our water challenges behind us and making sure everyone has great-tasting drinking water.”

The water department switched to Lake Evergreen in January due to the water levels in Lake Bloomington being too low for use. After this, many residents began to report a bad taste and smell from the water.Bloomington temporarily switching water source next week

The change in the taste and smell was determined to be caused by the amount of Methylisoborneol in the Lake. The Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority said Methylisoborneol is produced by algae and bacteria, which creates an earthy or musty smell.

The water source is expected to switch back to Lake Evergreen after about a week. More information is available here.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
