NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Heartland Community College in Normal hosted a groundbreaking for an expansion of the Constitution Trail around the college’s Birky Pond on Wednesday.

The country financial trail will include a gazebo, a pond overlook and a bird watching blind. A new walking and running trail will be bordered by native prairie grasses.

Keith Cornille, president of HCC said the project will restore 13 acres of prairie lands. He said the new amphitheater classroom will continue outdoor education along with Illinois State University’s horticulture center.

“With the horticulture center, the Corn Crib and now the Country Financial Trail, we are furthering this area of our community as a destination point for Bloomington-Normal,” Cornille said.

Construction will continue throughout the summer. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
