ST. LOUIS – Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Smith earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season following standout performances against UMKC and Western Illinois.

Smith earned her fifth and sixth shutouts of the season over the weekend, on pace to tie the nine shutouts she had during the 2016 season. She tallied five saves between the pipes Friday night in the 1-0 victory over UMKC and only needed to make two saves Sunday in the 1-0 victory over Western Illinois, thanks to the Redbird back line. Smith has 61 saves on the season so far, on pace to reach the 74 she had on the 2016 season.

Smith and the Redbirds return to action Wednesday when they host the Flames of UIC for senior night.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
