Delbert RossDelbert Ross

Delbert W. Ross, 75 of Chenoa, died at 10:30 pm, Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at his residence in Chenoa.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa with Deacon Mike An officiating. Burial will follow at Chenoa Township Cemetery, Chenoa.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. prior to the funeral also at the funeral home in Chenoa on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Family of Delbert Ross.

Mr. Ross was born on August 26, 1942 in Chenoa, the son of Imon and Rachel (Jacobs) Ross. He married Imogene Church on March 19, 1977 in Chenoa. His wife of 40 years survives in Chenoa.

Other survivors include two sons, David Ross of Charleston; and Ricky Ross of Pontiac; one step-son, Jeffrey Church of Forrest; one sister, Jane Corbett of Indianapolis, IN; a special niece, Christina Ross-Bobinski of Mesa, AZ; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

His parents, two brothers, one twin brother, three sisters, one son, Delbert Ross, Jr. and step-son, Joe W.L. Church also preceded him in death.

Mr. Ross was employed as a welder for over 30 years at Caterpillar Inc. He was a member of Chenoa Baptist Church. His tough exterior held a heart of gold that will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gayln SweetGalyn Sweet

Gayln Lee Sweet, 65, of Bloomington, passed away at 9:39 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 on his property in rural Carlock.

A private family service will be held with a Celebration of Gayln’s life at a later date. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to C.I.S.A.R. or friends are asked to plant a tree in Gayln’s memory.

Gayln was born May 2, 1952 in Bloomington, the son of Donald L. and Phyliss Terven Sweet. He married Mary Vollrath on Sept. 22, 1979 in Bloomington. She survives.

He is also survived by four siblings, Trudy Jones of Cooksville, Denise (Dan) O’Rourke of Greeley, Colo., Shelly Rubenic of Wheaton and Todd (Stacy) Sweet of Normal; sister-in-law, Vicki (Al) Davis of Boston, Mass.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends; as well as his pets, JoJo, Mya and Sly.

Gayln graduated from Octavia High School in 1970, where he was an outstanding athlete and held school track records for many years. He was a two-time State Champion High Jumper and during his senior year was the 4th rated amateur high jumper in the nation. He attended the University of Illinois on a full track scholarship.

Gayln was a vice president at WM Putnam Co. for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and reader and was a devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend.
