PEORIA – A young mother from Pekin was killed, but her child escaped serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on route 24 in Peoria County.

The Peoria County Coroner said Kaitlyn Hines. 21, was dead at the scene. Authorities said Hines was traveling south on Cameron Lane when she apparently turned in front of a vehicle heading westbound on route 24.

The coroner said her son was secured in a car seat, and was treated for minor injuries at Peoria’s OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

The coroner will perform an autopsy to determine what caused the woman’s death.
